When Tyson Fury pulled off one of the biggest shocks in boxing history by beating Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf on 28th November, he propelled himself to forefront of the British media.
The new heavyweight champion of the world spent the next few weeks being lauded, criticised and questioned about his remarkable sporting achievement of unanimously beating a 39-year-old Ukrainian that has ruled the sport for nearly a decade.
But then he gave an interview with the Daily Mail’s Oliver Holt that turned drastically sour when Fury made outrageous statements regarding homosexuality, abortion and paedophilia.
Calls then came for Fury to be removed from the BBC Sports Personality of the Year shortlist.
Well over 125,000 people have signed a petition opposing Fury’s involvement in the competition and here’s exactly why:
1. ‘When she’s got a dress on, Jessica Ennis-Hill looks quite fit.’
Jessica Ennis-Hill, three time world champion, Olympic gold medalist, CBE, legend of British athletics and fellow SPOTY nominee was dressed down by Fury in quotes that emerged online:
‘That’s the runner, isn’t it? She’s good, she’s won quite a few medals,’ says Fury.
‘She slaps up good as well. When she’s got a dress on she looks quite fit.’
2. ‘To be married to a handsome man like me – a stallion – must be a good feeling.’
An actual quote by an actual man called Tyson Fury.
Tyson Fury discussing his wife, Paris
‘My wife’s there, her job is cooking and cleaning, looking after these kids, that’s it. No other.‘She does get to make some decisions; what she’s going to cook me for tea when I get home.’
3. ‘A woman’s there to be loved, cook food and have some kids.’
Florence Nightingale, Emmeline Pankhurst, Marie Curie, Billie Holiday, Mother Teresa, Indira Gandhi, Malala Yousafzai… shall I keep going, Tyson?
4. Family loyalty
We’re staying with Fury’s views on women for the time being and, when discussing a women’s decision to have sex, he said the following, which included a reference to his imaginary sister.
‘There are girls who open their legs to every Tom, Dick and Harry. They are looked upon as rubbish.
‘If I had a sister who did that, I’d hang her.’
5. Comparing paedophilia to homosexuality
In a conversation about the end of the world, abortion, pedophilia and homosexuality, Fury offered his controversial views:
‘There are only three things that need to be accomplished before the devil comes home: one of them is homosexuality being legal in countries, one of them is abortion and the other one’s paedophilia.
‘Who would have thought in the 50s and 60s that those first two would be legalised?,’ he said.
Hears how I can put homosexuality along side Paedophilia? Printed by the BBC in 2014? pic.twitter.com/8Zc4VWJAg5

6. ‘A woman’s best place is in the kitchen and on her back – that’s my personal belief.’
Fury proving to the whole world that he was seems to have actually been transported into 2015 from 1912.
7. ‘50,000 w*****s can suck my b***s.’
This is Fury’s response to hearing that thousands of the British public have signed a petition to have him removed from the SPOTY contest. Classy.
Hopefully I don't win @BBCSPOTY as I'm not the best roll model in the world for the kids, give it to someone who would appreciate it, 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
