Amanda Nunes will face Raquel Pennington at UFC 224 in Brazil.
According to reports, Amanda Nunes will put her UFC women’s bantamweight title on the line against fan favorite Raquel Pennington at UFC 224 in her home country of Brazil.
Brazilian media outlet Combate confirmed the earlier reports of the upcoming title fight.
Nunes (15-4) had been campaigning for the super fight against featherweight champion Cris Cyborg. However, after Cyborg agreed to save the main event of UFC 222, the UFC booked Nunes against Pennington.
‘The Lioness’ was last seen defending her belt against Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 215 in September. This not only extended her win streak to six straight but also marked her third straight title defense. Nunes previously dismantled former champion Ronda Rousey just 48 seconds into the main event UFC 207. She will enter this content with 13 career stoppage wins, including 10 by way of (T)KO.
Pennington (9-5), a veteran of Season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter, has not stepped foot into the Octagon since earning a decision over former champion Miesha Tate at UFC 205 in November 2016. This pushed her win streak to four straight, which included decisions over Bethe Correia and Elizabeth Phillips and submission over Jessica Andrade.
