Bellator CEO Scott Coker has said that his promotion ‘has the best 170 pound division on the planet’ after he was pressed on a potential fight between welterweight contender Rory MacDonald and champion Douglas Lima after Bellator 169 in Dublin on Friday.
MacDonald, who is still recovering from a broken nose from his last fight against Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson at UFC Fight Night 89 in Ottawa during the summer, recently called out Bellator champion Douglas Lima with the two verbally agreeing to fight each other once Lima recovers from a host of minor injuries sustained from his last fight with Andrey Koreshkov.
Speaking in Dublin after Bellator 169, Coker said that he would be open to the idea of the two fighting and that Bellator’s welterweight division stacks up as the best in the world at the moment.
“Rory is a guy who was a highly coveted free agent that we signed up,” Coker told reporters in Dublin.
“If you look at our 170 lbs weight class, they’re all killers in there. We;ve got a bunch of killers. We’ve got [Andrey] Koreshkov, you’ve got [Douglas] Lima, you’ve got Rory MacDonald, you’ve got Paul Daley, you’ve got MVP.
“I’m telling you, we have got the best 170 pound division on the planet as far as I’m concerned.”
