The event will take place at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, the Philippines on October 15. The event will air in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass. It’s the second event held on Filipino soil as Frankie Edgar beat Urijah Faber in the main event last May at the same venue.
Lamas is a longtime Lightweight and Featherweight competitor. After a 3-2 WEC record at Lightweight, he moved to the Featherweight division in the UFC.
After a TKO win over Matt Grice and a submission over Cub Swanson, two more victories earned him a title shot against Jose Aldo in the co-main event of UFC 169. After a title loss, Lamas is 3-2 with wins over Hacran Dias (decision), Dennis Bermudez (Guillotine) and Diego Sanchez (decision).
Penn hasn’t fought since TUF 19 Finale in July 2014 and only three fights in the last five years. He won the Welterweight title at UFC 46 against Matt Hughes with a Rear-Naked choke. He then won the Lightweight title at UFC 80 and defended three times before losing to Frankie Edgar.
Penn is one of the all-time great fighters with 12 career UFC wins. In his last seven fights, Penn has had a rough go with a record of 1-5-1 with the lone win coming in a rematch against Matt Hughes at UFC 123.
