The mixed martial arts community was shocked to hear about the sudden passing of Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson. The backyard brawler turned record-breaking Bellator heavyweight fighter passed away due alleged heart failure on Monday evening.
Slice was a bit of a journey man in the sport of mixed martial arts, fighting for every organization from the world-famous UFC to the now defunct Elite XC. He may have been one of the more polarizing figures in the sport, but anybody he crossed paths with in the sport he made an impact.
Former female fighter Gina Carano recently released a heart felt message on social media, dedicated to Kimbo:
“You were always such a gentleman to me. Whenever you were around I felt a peace come over the room. It was honor sharing a stage with you my friend. RIP Kimbo. ❤️
love and peace to your family. Hearts are heavy for this loss. #kimboslice #KevinFerguson”
The two fought on one of Elite XC’s last cards together in on October 4, 2008.
