Cormier injured, Liddell steps in against Jones at UFC 197

UFC light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier has pulled out of his scheduled rematch with Jon Jones at UFC 197. ‘DC’ allegedly suffered an injury while play-fighting with AKA coach ‘Crazy’ Bob Cook earlier this week.
In a surprising turn, UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell has agreed to come out of retirement and step in against Jones at the April 23rd event in Las Vegas.

“All people remember I love fighting on our live stage,” said Liddell, who retired after his UFC 115 KO loss to Rich Franklin in June 2010.

Fireworks are expected between Liddell and Jones as tension recently began building between the two when Liddell claimed he would give Jones “a lot of trouble” if they fought during his prime.

Jones is coming off a lay-off of over a year after being stripped of the title and suspended by the UFC for a hit-and-run incident which occurred last year. Cormier won the vacant title by defeating Anthony Johnson via submission at UFC 187.

UFC 197 takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Vegas.
