Edson Barboza took on Beneil Dariush at UFC Fight Night 106 on Saturday night, a fight that ended with Barboza downing Dariush with a swift knee to the face. Here’s how it happened.
Dariush is in the blue shorts and, as you can see, so far, so good. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Just two fighters, waiting for a good opportunity to present itself.
Interestingly, it was Dariush who made the first move — and it was a good one. A quick, straight right to Barboza’s face that caught him clean.
But that’s when things started to go south.
After landing his punch, Dariush begins dropping his head towards the canvas. In boxing, this’d be a pretty smart move. Sure, you could be hit with an uppercut, but moving your head down like this means, you’re limiting your chances of swallowing a hard counter-punch. Mayweather does this all the time.
But this isn’t boxing. Thanks to some quick thinking from Barboza, he responds to Dariush’s punch by doing something boxers can’t: Lifting his right knee up.
Bam. Fight over.
