Ketlen Vieira faces another former title challenger as she is set to battle Cat Zingano at UFC 222.
Last week, Cat Zingano hinted at an upcoming fight, and the full details are now available.
The former women’s bantamweight champion will face undefeated prospect Ketlen Vieira. This fight is set for UFC 222 on March 3 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
MMA Brasil first reported the news on Friday, which has since been confirmed by multiple outlets. Zingano made mention of a possible fight via her Instagram profile, but did not reveal the full information.
“I have who. I have where. I know when. It’s time,” Zingano posted along with a picture of her in the cage.
At 9-0, Vieira is a rising athlete in the 135-pound division. She is coming off of a big win over another former title challenger, Sara McMann.
Vieira submitted the Olympic medalist via arm-triangle choke at UFC 215 in September. Before that, she put together two other UFC wins against Ashlee Evans-Smith at UFC on Fox 24 and Kelly Faszholz at UFC Fight Night 96.
Zingano is coming off of a loss in her last outing, which was more than a year ago. She dropped a unanimous decision to Julianna Pena at UFC 200 in July of 2016.
Before that, she fell to Ronda Rousey in 14 seconds at UFC 184, but that came after a run that included wins over Miesha Tate and Amanda Nunes. In fact, she’s the last person to defeat Nunes, the current 135-pound champion.
Zingano is currently ranked number six in the division, while Vieira is sitting in the number eight position. An interesting tidbit is that McMann is ranked number seven, ahead of the woman who recently submitted her.
This fight has not been announced by the UFC at this point in time. UFC 222 is not officially announced either, nor have any other bouts been announced for the event.
