Five weeks out from Conor McGregor’s professional boxing debut against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather, former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has given his prediction for the clash and it’s fair to say he doesn’t rate McGregor’s chances.
Speaking to Barstool Sports on Monday, Tyson conceded that he believes the UFC lightweight champion ‘is going to get killed’ when he steps into the ring with Mayweather on August 26th.
Tyson, who still holds the record for the youngest ever heavyweight champion, at 20, holds a record of 50-6, with 44 of those wins coming by way of knockout. Therefore, he knows more than a thing or two about what it takes to win inside the ring.
While he has admitted to admiring the Irishman, he wasn’t about to let that sway him from his belief that McGregor is headed for disaster.
“I got mad because I thought they were going to use MMA rules against boxing because that’s what it’s all about: Can the boxer beat the MMA guy?
“[McGregor] put his dumb ass in a position where he’s gonna get knocked out because [Mayweather has] been doing this all his life since he was a baby. [McGregor] can’t kick and grab and stuff …He’s not going to stand much of a chance.”
Tyson joins much of the boxing fraternity with his views and in truth, Mayweather appears to hold all the advantages over the UFC star ahead of the Las Vegas clash.
As perhaps the greatest ever defensive boxer, McGregor steps into the ring for the first time. While he and his team are steadfast in their confidence that he will shock the boxing world, logic would dictate that Mayweather comes out on top in the end.
When it comes to McGregor, however, logic and prediction tend to go out the window.
