Brit Stu Bennett wrestled for the global giant for 10 years under the name Wade Barrett, achieving huge success as the leader of the Nexus faction.
As Barrett, he also enjoyed success under the Bad News Barrett gimmick, winning the intercontinental championship five times.
After choosing not to sign a new contract in 2015, Barrett said he would return to the ring “when the time was right”.
Posting a picture of him relaxing on a beach in Bermuda, the Preston brawler hinted he could be on of this year’s 30 participants.
“I’d like to be under the sea, in an octopus’ garden in the shade.
"For those complaining about my abs, don’t worry they’ll be back by the rumble.”
This year’s event will also see the first ever women’s Royal Rumble, with 30 female competitors battling to be the inaugural winner.
