Paige VanZant reveals what is keeping her from UFC 216 bout

Paige VanZant has not one but several health issues that are keeping her out of action for the time being.

Earlier this week it was revealed that Paige VanZant would not be fighting Jessica Eye at UFC 216 as planned due to an injury, and now VanZant has announced exactly what’s keeping her out of the Octagon next week.

Reports had already revealed that she was unable to fight due to a herniated disk, but her double ear infection, sinus infection, pink eye and ringworm were all previously unreported.

VanZant, who recently announced she was dating fellow fighter Austin Vanderford, is coming off of a loss to Michelle Waterson and was hoping to use her fight with Eye to put her back in the win column.

The women were supposed to meet next week in Las Vegas on the main card featuring an interim lightweight title bout between Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee and a flyweight title showdown featuring Demetrious Johnson vs. Ray Borg.

This is the second fight in three months where Eye’s opponent has been unable to fight at the last minute. She was set to face Aspen Ladd at UFC 213, but the bout was canceled just hours before showtime due to an illness. She has not fought since her UFC 203 loss to Bethe Correia, her fourth defeat in a row.

This would have been VanZant’s 125-pound debut. She recently moved from Sacramento’s Team Alpha Male to a gym in her hometown of Portland, Oregon. She explained that the move was due to her desire to be close to family.

VanZant has taken her talents to Hollywood, as she was recently featured on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and Food Network’s celebrity cooking show Chopped.

VanZant’s last victory came after a stunning jump switch kick knockout of Bec Rawlings over a year ago. That KO earned her the first Performance of the Night bonus of her career.

The UFC has not announced if or when the fight will be rescheduled, if at all.
