The UFC president spoke on the status of featherweight Artem Lobov.

The UFC president spoke during a recent edition of the UFC Unfiltered podcast giving a brief but positive update on the status of featherweight Artem Lobov.

After the events of the now-infamous UFC 223 media day, many had figured that Artem Lobov’s patchy tenure within the world’s premier mixed martial arts promotion had come to an end.

Originally scheduled to face to Alex Caceres on the night’s undercard, the status of Lobov’s time within the UFC seemed to hinge on the outcome of that fight – despite his obvious ties to the sport’s biggest star, Conor McGregor.

A 2-4 record since signing comprised of six decisions didn’t exactly read well next to his 14-14-1 record as a pro – especially considering how violent his original run in The Ultimate Fighter was. That, coupled with his involvement in the events of April’s skirmish in Brooklyn, seemed to confirm to most that he would be cut.

Today, however, UFC president Dana White took a moment to mention the futures of both Lobov and McGregor and all things considered, it was about as positive an update as the TUF-finalist could hope for.

Speaking on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, White kept it brief on the subject of the SBG duo but surprisingly, confirmed that ‘The Russian Hammer’ was still a UFC athlete at this time.

After it emerged that he had scheduled and later rescheduled a meeting with McGregor in Liverpool on the weekend of the UFC’s trip to the Echo Arena, the head-honcho had this to say:

“Yeah, it didn’t work out. Now we’re working on meeting in between Chicago and his court date in New York. Something happened. Something went down with him personally and he couldn’t do it.

“Yeah, no, Artem’s still here. We haven’t made any moves on Artem lately either.

“I’m still waiting to see what happens with Conor to deal with this whole situation.”

Given how angry Dana was in the incident’s direct aftermath, this could well be seen as good news for Artem’s chances of getting at least one more fight under his rule. Whether the eventual meeting between the two most powerful men in the sport will be fruitful or not, remains to be seen.
