UFC heavyweights Stefan Struve and Alexander Volkov will fight in the main event at UFC Fight Night in Rotterdam.
Two of the biggest fighters (literally) the UFC has to offer will square off in the main even at UFC Fight Night in Rotterdam, the promotion announced Friday. “The Skyscraper,” 7-foot tall Stefan Struve (32-8-0) will face 6-foot-7 former Bellator heavyweight champion Alexander “Drago” Volkov (28-6-0) in the UFC’s return to the Netherlands.
Struve has won back-to-back and three of his last four, including a 16-second KO victory over Antonio Silva at UFC Fight Night 87 which earned him Performance of the Night honors. With notable wins over UFC heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic and UFC legend Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira, Skyscraper was supposed to face Junior Dos Santos in a rematch back in February but was sidelined by a shoulder injury. Fighting in his backyard in Holland, Struve hopes a win will put him back in the top 10 in hopes of making a run at the heavyweight title.
Former Bellator heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov has been undefeated since leaving the promotion. After losing two straight in Bellator, the Russian has been on a four-fight win streak including his first two with the UFC. In April at UFC on FOX: Johnson vs. Reis, Volkov made a huge statement with a unanimous decision win over popular heavyweight Roy “Big Country” Nelson. Officially ranked No. 10 in the heavyweight division, another win can up his chances of earning UFC gold and joining lightweight Eddie Alvarez in becoming a multiple promotion champion.
UFC Fight Night: Struve vs Volkov will go down on Sept. 2, 2017 at the Ahoy Rotterdam in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Expected to be featured exclusively on UFC Fight Pass, only the main event has been announced but more fights are surely to be scheduled soon. Tickets go on sale July 21.
