Before Robert Whittaker attempts to defend his Middleweight title against Yoel Romero in the-main event on UFC 2225 this weekend (Sat., June 9, 2017) in Chicago, Illinois., take a look back at Whittaker’s original win over “Soldier of God” at UFC 213 last year.
Indeed, the two hard-hitting men met inside the Octagon last July for the interim middleweight strap due to Michael Bisping’s injury, which held up the division for a bit. And it was a fight that didn’t disappoint, as both men had their shining moments throughout the bout. In the end, “The Reaper” pulled out a unanimous decision win despite suffering an injury early on in the bout.
Unfortunately for Whittaker, he never got the opportunity to unify the strap against Georges St-Pierre, but ultimately became the undisputed champion after “Rush” vacated the title due to health issues.
Now, Robert will look to earn his first-ever title defense against the last man he defeated. For Romero, it’s an opportunity to get revenge and earn his first-ever UFC title after he was ineligible to win the interim strap with his win over Luke Rockhold at UFC 221 due to missing weight.
